LIVE THE EXPERIENCE
During the visit
The visit begins in the hatchery room, where you learn about the life
cycle of lobster and how fragile they are in the first months of life.
We continue in the big room where we learn about anatomy and
why there are colour variations.
Once completed, self-exploration stations are encouraged where
the visitor learns more about the fishery, the ecosystem and more.
Duration of 20 to 25 minutes with a tour guide.
Adopt a lobster
The baby lobster adoption program will allow you to take an active
part in the sustainability of the lobster resource.
Adopt your own baby lobster and you can:
Name your baby lobster
Receive a certificate of adoption
Track the place and date of release
Track the evolution of your baby lobster hatchery to the sea.
Since 2002, Homarus Inc. has seeded more than 4 million baby lobsters on the eastern
seaboard of the Maritimes.
Release of baby lobsters
The project to release young lobster is the reason behind the creation of the Homarus Group, a research and development branch of the Maritime Fishermen's Union. We bring females back from the sea and put them in basins at the hatchery. The small ones (larvae) once out of the egg swim freely in the water of the basins for 12-14 days without any risk of predators, and in optimal conditions of survival, before being released by the fishermen themselves on board of their boat. They are transported in large adapted basins. This project is mature and more than 5 million lobster babies have been released since 2002. Research conducted around this project has brought considerable knowledge and research and development tools to the Homarus team. Thanks to this expertise, the Homarus Group projects have diversified and large-scale environmental issues are being studied (climate change for example) at present.
